Witness reports to the CHP indicated that a Nissan sedan struck a pole at about 6:30 a.m. on Cherry Lane at Treat Boulevard, which is in an unincorporated area just west of Walnut Creek.
Members of the Contra Costa County Fire District responded to the scene.
A person associated with that vehicle died after the crash, according to the CHP.
