Man arrested for stealing same bike twice

SANTA CRUZ, Calif.

Police were dispatched around 8:50 a.m. to the 800 block of Seabright Avenue after a 41-year-old Santa Cruz man said a man walked out of his garage, police said.

The suspect, 26-year-old Zachary Mifflin, had allegedly attempted to steal a bicycle from the same home and been in the same garage in July but had fled without the bike. On Saturday, the suspect left the garage wearing backpack, police said.

The victim said the lock connected to his bicycle had been almost cut off -- he has been locking his bicycle up in his garage since the July theft attempt, police said.

The suspect fled on foot from the area Saturday morning but police found Mifflin near Cayuga and Logan streets. He allegedly had burglary tools with him, police said.

Mifflin was arrested on suspicion of burglary, possession of burglary tools and probation violation. He was booked into county jail, police said.

No one was injured during the attempted robbery, according to police.
