Santa Clara animal shelter boasts success in 2011

It's good to be a pet at Santa Clara County's animal care and control.

The animal shelter is boasting its successful adoption rate for last year. 100 percent of the healthy dogs and cats in the shelter were placed in homes in 2011. And overall, their adoption and reclaim rate was 80 percent.

National figures for similar animal centers are 50 percent.

The animal care and control shelter takes in about 3,000 pets a year. It has an open-door shelter policy for strays in unincorporated Santa Clara County.
