Mozilla wants to transform the mobile web the way it took on traditional internet.

The Mountain View non-profit is today opening of its own app store. Mozilla marketplace will offer mobile apps that could run on an iPhone, Android phone or Windows phone device. It's also developing a smartphone that would not be locked into the apps, operating systems and devices now controlled by a few giants.

Mozilla hopes to repeat the success of its Firefox browser, which challenged Microsoft's Explorer, and gave consumers more choice.
