Bridging the Income Gap
Hosted by ABC7's Cheryl Jennings
This episode of Beyond the Headlines talks about the widening gap between the rich and the poor.
According to a study by the Public Policy Institute of California, the state's middle class has shrunk to 48% of the population, down from a high of 60% in the 1980s. This change in income has affected the poorest Californians the most with a loss of 21% of their income. The middle class has suffered an 11% loss, and the wealthiest Californians suffered 8%.
Today's show looks at the growing income gap and what is being done to bridge the divide. Discussion topics include education, job creation, and technology.
