People who recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans will soon be getting a little more money for redeeming them.

State officials have raised the redemption rates paid at recycling centers. The rate for plastic bottles is going up seven cents to $1 a pound.

Aluminum cans are going up 3 cents to a $1.57 a pound. The state made the change after deciding that consumers and companies weren't getting a big enough slice of the pie from California's redemption value program.
