A 5-year-old child was struck and injured by a car this morning in San Francisco's Polk Gulch neighborhood as she and her mother crossed the street, a police spokesman said.

The girl was struck by a Jeep at about 8 a.m. near the corner of Frank Norris and Larkin streets when she and her mother crossed the alley between two parked cars, Officer Albie Esparza said.

The child was transported to San Francisco General Hospital to be treated for injuries that are not believed to be life threatening.

Esparza said the Jeep's driver is a woman in her 40s and that no citation had been issued to the driver.

The incident remains under investigation, he said.
