Man suspected of burglarizing more than a dozen homes

SUNNYVALE, Calif.

San Jose resident Jerry Tran Vo, 32, was arrested in Sunnyvale shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday after a police officer spotted him riding a bicycle on Bernardo Avenue near Ticonderoga Drive, police said.

After serving search warrants on Vo's home and on a car impounded at the scene of a Monday burglary, detectives were able to link the suspect to at least nine of 14 recent burglaries reported in Sunnyvale and three others in nearby towns, according to police.

One of the more recent burglaries took place around 3:20 p.m. Monday, when a resident allegedly interrupted Vo, who was inside his home.

The victim chased Vo outside and confronted him nearby, causing the suspect to drop property he had stolen and flee the area, police said.

Police searched the neighborhood for more than five hours but were unable to find the suspect.

Neighbors told police about an unfamiliar car parked in the neighborhood, which officers concluded was involved with the burglary. The car was towed, impounded and used as evidence.

Vo is being held in Santa Clara County Jail and detectives continue to investigate his potential involvement in other recent burglaries.

Anyone with information related to these crimes is asked to contact Detective Joel Lockwood at (408) 730-7134.
