The shooting occurred shortly before 7 p.m. near Galenez Way and Bluerock Drive, Lt. John Vanderklugt said.
The victim, a passenger in a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old, told police he was struck in the shoulder after a shot was fired "basically out of the bushes," Vanderklugt said.
The victim was taken to an area hospital with injuries that are not considered life-threatening.
Police have no suspect information or motive at this time.
Vanderklugt noted that the victim gave police a "very limited interview," and that there may be more to the story than is presently known by investigators.
