The Brisbane Elementary School District says it will have to lay off that many teachers unless voters approve a $156 annual parcel tax in a special election next Tuesday. Homeowners over 65 could opt out.
The tax requires a two-thirds yes vote to pass. The board says it is facing a $500 million deficit. It is considering a merger with neighboring Bayshore School District.
