SAN MATEO, Calif. --
A 4-year-old San Mateo boy in desperate need of a bone marrow transplant is making significant improvements on medication. Kyle Crawford has aplastic anemia, which prevents his body from making new blood cells. His family now says he is responding positively to immune suppression treatment and medicine and is now regenerating cells.
Kyle's doctors have placed a hold on his transplant, but there is a risk that Kyle could relapse and will need an immediate transplant.
His family calls Kyle's improvement a surprise blessing.
