Oakland Northern Light School dedicated its brand new youth baseball field and named it "Vida Blue's Field of Dreams." Blue says the professionally-designed diamond was the result of many generous donors and hours of hard work.
"I came to speak to the 8th graders a couple years ago and I was so impressed, I came back and Larry Harper from the Good Tidings Foundation was so kind. We got some folks together. We raised a few funds and the next thing you know, we got a field named after me, which is very flattering," Blue said.
Northern Light is a non-profit school providing a high-quality education for children from all socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds.
By the way, this is a big weekend for Blue. He'll be taking part in a special ceremony Saturday night marking the 40th anniversary of the A's first world championship team.
