Fourth of July sparks fire concerns

GILROY, Calif.

CalFire is fully staffed for the summer firefighting season and they were hard at work on Wednesday. It is believed that fireworks were to blame for a small fire off Uvas Road outside of Gilroy.

"We heard fireworks going off," Margueritte Michels said.

CalFire responded quickly, sending in 50 firefighters and air support.

Although safe and sane fireworks are legal in Gilroy, it is illegal to take them outside of city limits.

Gilroy has extra police and fire support on the Fourth of July, paid for in part by the sales of the fireworks.
