Stephen Hawking loses 'God particle' bet

Theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking made a wager that the so-called 'God particle' would remain a theory of particle physics. And now he's happy to pay up.

"I had a bet with Gordon Kane of Michigan University that the Higgs particle wouldn't be found," Hawking said. "It seems I have just lost $100."

Hawking believes Peter Higgs should receive the Nobel Prize for his discovery.

The existence of the Higgs Boson was revealed Wednesday. Physicists say it gives everything mass in our universe and put the "bang" into the big bang.
