Caltrans is awarding nearly $49 million to fund road safety improvements near school campuses throughout the state. This is through the state agency's safe routes program.
In the Bay Area, Alameda County will get more than $2 million for seven projects. Contra Costa County will receive more than $1 million for three projects. Santa Clara County will get $800,000 for two projects and Palo Alto will receive nearly $500,000.
