Fifth grader delivers same-sex marriage speech

NEW YORK

10-year old Kameron Slade wrote that speech for a school competition two months ago, but his principal in Queens decided the topic was inappropriate.

When a video of Slade reading his speech went viral on the internet, the school allowed him to give his speech at a special assembly.

"The original message was that no matter what orientation you are, you should be treated the same as a straight person," Slade said.

When New York officials heard about the story they invited Slade to deliver the speech to the New York City Council in support of same-sex marriage.
