High temperatures prompt 'Flex Alert' for Tuesday

SACRAMENTO, Calif.

The Flex Alert will be in effect Tuesday between 11 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Conservation Tips

  • Set the thermostat at 78 or higher and turn off if away
  • Cool with fans and draw the drapes
  • Turn off unnecessary lights and appliances
  • Use major appliances in the morning or late evening

Flex alerts are intended to prevent operating reserves from falling to the point that a Stage 1 emergency occurs. Transmission emergencies are declared when local voltage levels are at risk due to sudden power line outages or when fires threaten the grid.

Stage 1 Emergency: Operating reserves forecast to fall to between 7 percent to 6 percent
Stage 2 Emergency: Operating reserves forecast to fall below 5 percent
Stage 3 Emergency: Operating reserves forecast to fall below 3 percent
