John McGuan, 29, was reported missing around 6 p.m. Sunday. Two friends who were jet skiing with McGuan said they lost sight of him near Bethel Island. The Coast Guard then launched a rescue operation that went through the night and into the morning. It ends up McGuan's jet ski ran out of gas. He swam to the shore of Jersey Island and slept there. A local farmer lent him a phone this morning, and he called his friends.
