Ceasar's Italian Restaurant will close

SAN FRANCISCO

Ceasar's Italian Restaurant on Powell Street is closing its doors after 56 years in business. Ceasar's specialized in long family meals in the old North Beach style, where there was plenty of sauce for the pasta. The owners say the down economy is a big factor for the closure, but so are changing San Francisco tastes.

"Just a change in demographics. A change in clientele. You know, the ever changing San Francisco. People want quick things and we're very old school," said Robert Romani, Ceasar's Maître d'.

Long-time chef and co-owner Matteo Crivello was still in the kitchen serving up Italian comfort food. Ceasar's says it will keep its webpage up and its Facebook page to stay in contact with long-time customers.
