Woman drives car into T.J. Maxx clothing store

DALY CITY, Calif.

Fire crews were sent to 100 Westlake Shopping Center at 10:37 a.m. for a vehicle that had hit a building, spokesman Matt Lucett said.

Arriving crews found that the driver had hit the T.J. Maxx clothing store while traveling at a slow rate of speed, Lucett said.

The driver -- the lone person in the car -- was not injured but a bystander had jumped out of the way of the moving vehicle and complained of some minor pain, according to Lucett.

Paramedics evaluated the bystander at the scene and she was then taken to San Francisco General Hospital for further evaluation, Lucett said.

Fire personnel said the building sustained cosmetic damage and that a building inspector would head out there to check the building's structure.

The store remained open and operating today, Lucett said.

A sales associate answering the phones at the store this afternoon said the aftermath of the crash is noticeable with bricks exposed where the car hit the building.

She said operations were running smoothly this afternoon despite the accident and none of her co-workers were injured or affected.

Lucett said police are investigating what led the driver to crash.
