The early morning apartment fire at 2782 Villa Monterey was under control at 04:09 a.m.
Firefighters responded to the eight-unit building after reports of a fire came in at 2:57 a.m., Brown said. Firefighters arrived on scene and witnessed an upstairs unit fully engulfed in flames, with fire shooting out the windows and attic, Brown said.
Two people were reportedly trapped by the fire and may have self-evacuated by jumping from an upstairs window, Brown said.
One of the residents suffered second-degree burns while trying to escape the building. The resident was then transported to the hospital, Brown said.
At 3:11 a.m. firefighters upgraded the blaze to a two-alarm and were able to knock down flames by 3:23 a.m.
Firefighters initially evacuated five units but residents were soon able to return to two of the units. Three of the units are no longer inhabitable, Brown said.
The American Red Cross is assisting those displaced by the fire to arrange shelter, according to fire officials.
