Researchers in Texas say they are launching a new war against cancer.

The MD Anderson Cancer Center is calling its Moon Shots Program an unprecedented effort to speed up the conversion of scientific discoveries into clinical advances.

Their goal is to reduce the number of deaths of several forms of cancer.

The center's president says they were inspired by John F. Kennedy's determination to go to the moon in the 1960's.
