Purple Onion officially closes its doors

SAN FRANCISCO

Legends performed and legends were made on stage at the Purple Onion. Performers were not just comedians, but years ago, there were musicians like The Kingston Trio and Jim Nabors.

There were 100 people that packed into the club on the final night. However, business has not been good enough to stay open. One of the dozens of comedians taking the stage said it's a big loss.

On Tuesday, everything will be sold at auction, such as the pictures of the greats who played, the tables, chairs. But Monday night some people are taking away a memory of something very San Franciscan.

The last comedian that was scheduled to perform at The Purple Onion was Father Guido Sarducci. Will Durst was also there and there were rumors that Robin Williams might appear.
