The students from Ida Wells High School were able to unearth the tile floor of the Sutro Height Conservatory, which was demolished 80 years ago. Other artifacts collected will go in the parks service historic record.
Their teacher set up a whole lesson plan before the dig, teaching the kids about archeology and changing landscapes.
