The day-long conference is organized by state Senator Mark Leno. The girls mainly come from schools in impoverished San Francisco neighborhoods. Leno says many of the participants have seen some type of violence first hand.
The conference works on building their self-esteem, but also teaches them yoga and how to write a resume. It's been such a success that Leno now also organizes a boys-only conference.
