New York City Marathon cancelled following Superstorm Sandy

NEW YORK

The race, which draws runner from around the globe, was scheduled for this Sunday.

City officials had been facing criticism over the decision to go ahead with the marathin while large parts of the city are still reeling from Superstorm Sandy. There was concern about resources like police being diverted to the race.

The death toll in New York City from Superstorm Sandy stands at more than 40.

There is no word on when the race will be rescheduled.
