10-year-old girl helps Sacred Heart close "turkey gap"

SAN JOSE, Calif.

10-year-old Julia Casanova heard about the "turkey gap" at Sacred Heart Community Service. The organization was hundreds of turkeys short for their annual food giveaway.

So Julia turned her birthday party into a fundraiser, earning nearly $400 for Sacred Heart.

"I want everybody to have a nice Thanksgiving," Julia said. "And I know that can feed eight families. Or close to that. Everybody deserves a turkey, or at least a meal to give thanks."

That money helped close the gap, and helped provide food boxes for more than 4,000 people.

This is the 48th year for their annual food giveaway.

Sacred Heart's next big drive -- toys. The organization says they will need about 17,000 toys before Christmas.
