Boeing says it used 20,000 pounds of potatoes to test its in-flight Wi-Fi.

Engineers for the airline manufacturer used the taters to fill the seats of a test aircraft. They say the vegetables' interactions with radio-wave signals mimic those of the human body.

Boeing says it's learning ways to allow passengers to use mobile devices in-flight without interfering with the plane's navigation equipment.

After the flights, the potatoes were donated to a food bank.
