Bay Bridge tower repairs set to begin Tuesday

SAN FRANCISCO

The tanker bashed into one of the towers on the western span, damaging what's known as a fender.

That fender absorbed the impact and no damage was done to the tower. However, it's expected to cost $2 to 3 million to repair.

Caltrans crews will begin work using steel and recycled plastic on Tuesday and says it will take approximately four and a half months to finish the repair.
