Bay Bridge tower repairs set to begin Tuesday

Work is set to begin at the Bay Bridge next week to fix the damage caused by an oil tanker that crashed into a tower.

The tanker bashed into one of the towers on the western span, damaging what's known as a fender.

That fender absorbed the impact and no damage was done to the tower. However, it's expected to cost $2 to 3 million to repair.

Caltrans crews will begin work using steel and recycled plastic on Tuesday and says it will take approximately four and a half months to finish the repair.
