CHP preparing for Super Bowl aftermath

Local law enforcement agencies will increase staffing this Super Bowl Sunday in case fans get out of hand. Following the 49ers win in the NFC Championship game on Jan. 26, fan celebrations in San Francisco were fairly tame as city police were able to handle whatever came up.

Super Bowl Sunday could be a different story. Alcohol and a 49ers win could combine to bring a lot trouble. California Highway Patrol Ofc. Elon Steers has pretty clear advice for fans "The message we have, you know, if you're going to consume alcohol, do it in a way that doesn't require you to drive. Plan ahead, get a cab, stay the night, celebrate at home. But, at any expense, don't drink and drive."

The reinforcement comes in the wake of the San Francisco Giants World Series in October where the celebrations were violent and destructive. Officials hope for a happy but calm celebration on Sunday.
