Local musician honoring Newtown victims at concert

BERKELEY, Calif.

Linda Tillery, a San Francisco-based R&B and soul singer, wanted to reach out to the community and felt the Newtown tragedy provided an opportunity to do so.

"I was really moved by the incident in Newtown," Tillery said. "I wanted to somehow make a statement for our kids to say 'We love you' and 'We're here for you.'"

Twenty-six people, including 20 children, died in the shooting on Dec. 10 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown.

Tillery said she is hoping to do a few more concerts to raise awareness about gun violence and to encourage parents to question school board members about campus safety.

Today's show is taking place at the Freight & Salvage Coffeehouse at 2020 Addison St. at 1 p.m. Tickets are $8.50.
