Fire displaces residents at Campbell senior-living center

CAMPBELL, Calif.

Nobody was injured, but some residents are being helped by the Red Cross because their homes are damaged.

The fire was minor and contained to just one 12th floor apartment. It set off the sprinkler system, which quickly put out the flames. But the water drained down through the floors directly below. Firefighters are checking the extent of the damage.

"We're trying to ascertain how many of the units are damaged to the point where the occupants are going to be displaced," Battalion Chief Brad Darbro said. "Most of the people are obviously going to be fine."

Those seniors fortunate enough to be allowed to go back home had to climb the stairs because the fire left elevators out of service.
