New research suggests breast feeding a baby longer has little effect on reducing the risk of childhood obesity later in life.

Doctors in Belarus followed more than 13,000 breast-feeding moms and their babies for 11 years. They discovered there was no significant difference in the levels of excess weight, obesity, and height between children who were breast fed for a short time, and those who were breast fed longer.

The study appears in JAMA, The journal of the American Medical Association.
