One of two suspects in violent robbery on VTA in SJ arrested

SAN JOSE, Calif.

After releasing surveillance footage to the public on Tuesday police received tips identifying two suspects in the Feb. 6 robbery as Jozette Rios, 20, and her older brother Jonathan Zipriano Rios, 21, according to police spokesman Officer Albert Morales.

Jozette was located and arrested on Friday, but Jonathan Rios remains at large and a felony warrant has been issued for his arrest.

Police say the two suspects and the victim were riding on a Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority train on Feb. 6 and got off together at the Race Street Station at about 6:52 p.m., police said.

The suspects followed the victim onto a sidewalk and the female suspect allegedly started to punch and kick the woman until she fell to the ground, police said.

The female and male suspect together allegedly ripped the purse away from the woman's grasp and then got onto bicycles and rode way, police said.

Jonathan Rios is described as being 5 feet 8 inches tall, around 165 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Police believe he is homeless and probably in the downtown San Jose or Alviso areas. He was last seen riding a 10-speed bicycle with curved handlebars.
