Official says diplomacy needed to deal with North Korea

SAN FRANCISCO

Chung Dong Young met with Korean Americans in San Francisco this week. He was the Minister of Unification a decade ago when North Korea agreed to let South Korean companies open a business park in the north.

He insists doing nothing just gives North Korea more time to fine tune its nuclear program.

"In my view, now's the time that the United States has to exert diplomatic efforts to resolve the North Korean issue through dialog in the level of decision making," Young said.

He called the current situation dangerous, but says he would be surprised if the north shut down the business park he helped to create because it brings them $100 million in revenue each year.
