Redwood City domestic violence suspect escapes from patrol car

UNINCORPORATED SAN MATEO COUNTY, Calif.

Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 domestic violence call on the 2700 block of Devonshire Avenue Thursday night. When they arrived, they found 27-year-old Juan Carlos Valencia and a woman, later determined to be the victim, on the sidewalk.

Valencia was handcuffed and put in the back of the patrol car. However, while deputies were investigating the suspect somehow got out of the car and ran away.

Officials searched the area for several hours, but could not find Valencia.

Because the suspect told family members he would not go back to jail, authorities consider him dangerous.

Valencia is wanted for felony domestic violence assault, violation of a restraining order and for escape from custody.

Officials say the suspect may be driving a four door, silver, 1991, Acura Legend with the license plate number 2YGP965.

Anyone with information regarding Valencia's whereabouts is asked to call 911.

Those with additional information about the assault or escape are asked to call Det. Bridget Hensley at 650-363-4051 or bhensley@smcgov.org. You may also remain anonymous by calling the San Mateo Co. Sheriff's Office Tip Line at 1-800-547-2700.
