Suspect killed in Oakland officer-involved shooting

OAKLAND, Calif.

Around 2 p.m. police responded to the 7700 block of Bancroft Avenue where the suspect was hit by police gunfire, according to police. The incident began as a vehicle pursuit but the suspects fled on foot.

Police took two additional suspects into custody. One weapon was recovered at the scene. Witnesses say they heard as many as six shots. Police would only say that multiple shots were fired.

Police have shut down roads near the shooting, including Bancroft Avenue between 77th and 80th avenues, the 2500 block of 79th Avenue and Ritchie Street between Olive and Hillside streets. There are more than two dozen officers at the scene.
