Powerful, deadly earthquake rocks Taiwan

A strong earthquake hit central Taiwan overnight, killing one person and injuring at least 18 others. The magnitude 6.2 quake struck near the city of Buli in the heart of the country.

The temblor triggered rock slides in the mountainous area near the epicenter. One of those rocks crushed a car, killing its driver.

Taiwanese media is reporting damage to households across the country.

No tsunami warning has been issued.
