They found that a lack of sleep contributes to excessive worrying.

Sleep deprivation amplifies anxiety by firing up brain regions that are associated with emotional processing, the same brain activity happens in people with anxiety disorder.

The findings suggest more sleep could help with depression, bipolar disorder and other mental illnesses.

The study is published in the Journal of Neuroscience.
