Crews contain vegetation fire on Mt. Tam

The fire was contained around 7 a.m. today. It was reported around 9:30 p.m. Thursday near Kentfield off of the Hoo Koo E Koo trail, where fire officials received multiple calls reporting smoke and flames, according to Battalion Chief Mike Giannini.

The fire started near a fuel break area created by fire crews in 2006, and its spread was slowed by fuel reduction efforts in that area, Giannini said.

No structures were damaged and there were no evacuations or injuries reported.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, but it does not appear that fireworks were involved, fire officials said.

Around 80 firefighters were involved in fighting the blaze from departments including the Marin County Fire Department, Cal Fire, Kentfield, Larkspur, Novato, Ross Valley and Stinson Beach fire, Giannini said.

Crews remained at the scene this morning to mop up hot spots in the area.
