Pittsburg crews puts out brush fire next to Stoneman park

PITTSBURG, Calif.

Crews were dispatched to reports of a fire at the intersection of West Leland Road and John Henry Johnson Parkway in front of Stoneman Park around 8:50 p.m., the dispatcher said.

When crews arrived on the scene, the blaze had grown to about two acres, she said.

CalFire crews were called out to assist at the scene since the area is considered a fire threat zone.

The fire burned about four acres of vegetation before firefighters contained the blaze around 9:25 p.m., according to the dispatcher.

The blaze broke out next-door to ConFire Station 87, which closed its doors earlier this month due to budget cuts.

In the wake of the closure, crews from neighboring stations have been called to respond to fire and medical calls in the surrounding area.
