'Abrazos and Books' scholarship recipient dies

Nearly 20 years ago, Victor Hugo Miranda won a scholarship through the "Abrazos and Books" organization of former ABC7 News reporter Rigo Chacon.

That is where Miranda vowed to become a doctor and he did.

In 2002, Chacon followed up with Miranda in Mexico where he was a popular physician at a small hospital two hours from Mexico City.

Unfortunately, he developed kidney problems, and despite a transplant, Miranda developed pneumonia, and passed away at the age of 34.
