Video from Fuse News captured the attack on the 73-year-old singer during last month's Hayward Blues Festival.
The woman jumped onstage moments after the musician dedicated a song to the family of Trayvon Martin.
Chambers and his lawyer talked about the attack on KGO Radio.
"What puzzles me is, what did I start?" Chambers asked. "What I started to upset this woman, in this way and in this manner. "
Attorney John Burris added, "We hope that the criminal justice system works in an effective and efficient way and that she is convicted and properly punished."
Hayward police have arrested a suspect in the attack. 43-year-old Dinalynn Andrews Potter now faces felony elder abuse charges.
Chambers and his attorney want hate crime charges added.
