Thief enters San Carlos home through doggy door

SAN CARLOS, Calif.

The burglary happened sometime between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. in the 100 block of Ruby Avenue in the White Oaks neighborhood, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office.

A neighbor called the sheriff's office at about 8 p.m. to report the crime. The house had been ransacked and the thief had used a key found inside the home to steal a black BMW 525i that was parked in the driveway, sheriff's officials said.

It appears the intruder entered the home through a dog door on the side of the house and then left through the front door, according to the sheriff's office.

When the residents return from vacation, they will take inventory to determine what else was stolen, investigators said.

The sheriff's office is urging residents to report any suspicious activity, and to notify neighbors if they are going out of town.
