Shoe boutique to donate portion of proceeds to Zero Breast Cancer

SAUSALITO, Calif.

One man wants to do his part to help and all it takes for you to help him is a new pair of shoes.

Buying the shoes is quite the experience. You get to sit on silk custom made furniture and you're surrounded by beautiful shoes that are like a piece of art. The good news is the owner has made this experience guilt free.

Among the souvenir shops in Sausalito you might not expect to find a high-end shoe boutique, but that's exactly how the shop owner Wayne Kaleck likes it.

"I'm trail blazing, basically, and I would like to see more stores come into Sausalito at a level that everyone can appreciate," he said.

Kaleck is opening Shoes Stories next Wednesday, a store that's as pretty as the shoes it displays. Shoes by Valentino and Stuart Weitzman will be sold there. There aren't many pairs of shoes inside the store that will be less than $1,000.

"We're serving champagne. We have a champagne bar. We'll pick them up by private car if they want to come in to shop with their girlfriends. We're going to run a complete concierge service out of this store," Kaleck said.

However, this store isn't just about indulgence, it's also about giving.

"We're going to donate 10 percent of our proceeds from that day through the month of October to Zero Breast Cancer Marin," he said.

Kaleck has lost two sisters to cancer. His sister Robin died six months ago. Kaleck plans to continue giving beyond October. He will select a different charity each month to donate a portion of his sales. He thinks his sisters would be proud of his generosity and of his store.

"They would be very pleased with this store. They would actually be going crazy," he said.

ABC7 News spoke with the director of Zero Breast Cancer Marin who says, the number of breast cancer incidents in Marin County are actually going down. She thinks that donated money will help her organization get that number down because it really focuses on prevention.
