Palo Alto takes a big new step in the electric vehicle revolution -- new homes in the city must come pre-wired for chargers. The city council voted nine-nothing last night for changing the building code in the city that's home Tesla Motors.

Supporters say it will cost only $200 to pre-wire new homes for charging stations. That compares to $8,000 to install wiring in existing homes. The council also approved steps to make it easier to get a permit to install a charging station.
