The California Public Utilities Commission has ordered PG&E to keep a natural gas pipeline in San Carlos out of service, despite assurances from the utility that it is safe.

The CPUC's Safety and Enforcement Division will investigate Pipeline 147 to verify it does not pose a danger.

San Carlos officials persuaded a judge to step in and order the pipeline shut down after an internal memo from PG&E questioned its safety.

The pipeline runs between Highway 101 and Interstate 280.
