Palo Alto takes steps to make Caltrain tracks safer

PALO ALTO, Calif.

The city council voted Monday night to pay a New Jersey firm $127,000 to evaluate building a trench from San Antonio Road to Matadero Creek; and create submerged crossings at three intersections.

Caltrain's plan for electrification was one compelling reason to undertake the study. Electrification could eventually boost the number of Caltrain trips that pass through Palo Alto from five or six an hour, to 10.
