SANTA ROSA, Calif.

The Press Democrat reports that Deputy Erick Gelhaus underwent mental health screening and will return to work in an administrative capacity next week.

He's been on leave since October 22, the day he shot Andy Lopez.

Lopez was walking in his Santa Rosa neighborhood with a plastic airsoft rifle.

According to police investigators, the 28-year veteran believed the teen was carrying a real gun said Lopez refused to drop it.

Community activists have held multiple protests, demanding justice for the teen.
