Students to protest decision to retire 'Apache' mascot

VALLEJO, Calif.

The Vallejo City Unified School District board voted unanimously last month to drop the Apache mascot at the end of the school year because some believe it is offensive to Native Americans.

However, others say the name honors the Apache.

Organizers of the protest say the feelings of students and alumni were ignored before board members voted for the change. They plan to ask the school board to rescind their vote.
